  • Linkabord raised bed

I've got my bed sorted with nice soil inside (and lots of worms! ) and netting over the top but I'm wondering what the best way is to split it into squares (as per square foot gardening techniques). I wanted to use garden string but then can't think how to attach it to the Linkabord. Any ideas gratefully received! (PS I am not very good at building things...)

    Thanks x

    Hi
On the top side of your linkaboard are there little holes? I attached my enviromesh over the top of the linkaboard by using fleece pegs pierced through the fleece and into the linkaboard.
    Just an idea!

I have 8 link a bord beds here and am a great fan of it, I use fleece pegs to hold string down if that helps at all and I have recently got some 1metre dowels and instead of cutting them down to size I have hammered them in a little to the linkabord and bent them inwards and joined them together in the middle with (I don't know what they call it and am useless at descriptions) dowel of a different diameter that they sell thereby giving me hoops over the beds to put fleece or enviromesh over. As I know I am so bad at describing things let me know if you would like a picture as these 'extra joiners' are not on their web site and I have never seen a picture of them

I forgot to say I'm not sure if you know this but they also do 'stretchers' that attach to the straight links to stop the longer beds from bowing, they are basically 1 metre dowels with a cup hook, drill a hole in the straight link, in the middle near the bottom of the link and hook the cup hook on, they do work.

Pictures have been taken so hopefully will be ready tomorrow.

Here's the photos of the link a hoops - these are on 1 metre dowels but they do do a 2 metre dowel as well

Great idea poultrychat. You said the middle "joiner" bits are not on their website so how did you get hold of them?

Looks good PC. I may be tempted myself. The great thing is you can moke them easily & they don't rot. I do wish they'd do them in a longer length though - a 2m one would be good.

Just ask them about them, speak to Pat, she's normally there. I might try 2 metre ones as well as I think they could just be high enough for the brassica bed to keep those bl**dy cabbage whites off! When I was putting in the higher dowels I also found it easy to take out the old ones with a pair of wide nosed pliers so I am thinking of getting the 2 metre ones and moving them each year for the brassica's. The little 'joiners' I think are 35p each.
