Finally, a cucumber (Vega) big enough to eat! I had given up on these as they steadfastly refused to pollinate and produced only female flowers. I brought males home from the plant in my friend's greenhouse, but despite pushing the centres of the males into the female flowers, nothing happened. I got fed up and used courgette pollen, but it is hard to know if that was the turning point as some male flowers finally appeared, and now there are about 6 small cucumbers

Another variety today - runner bean Red Rum. I got the timing of this spot on, as the first beans were ready a couple of days after I picked the last ones from my Stardust plants

Another variety of potatoes with my tea today - Sarpo Axona. I grew these to compare with Desiree as a mashing potato. They mash nicely, but I think they are more floury and less smooth than Desiree, although they have a nice flavour.

Chinese celery (Kin Tsai) thinnings in my salad for lunch today.

Well....

I could decide to dig up one of the Sarpo Mira potatoes, but the foliage hasn't died down yet. I could decide to eat one of the Pixie cabbages as greens rather than a hearted cabbage. I could eat one of the Komatsuna Torasan which are just forming their first true leaves, but I'd rather let them get a bit bigger first. I could eat one of the beetroot tops, but I don't really like them and I'm waiting for the roots to swell. I could wait until the tomato Belle that I have picked and brought in to ripen turns red (its starting to), or I could sow some amaranth or cress seeds for microleaves.

Or I could wait for the brokali to produce some spears, but I think that would be being obtuse!

Decisions, decisions

Alternatively I might manage to get a few leaves of corn salad if it hurries up and germinates, or there's the Mitsuba Mashimori I sowed yesterday or the Giant winter spinach I haven't sown yet...

Maybe 100 was too easy!

Yes, and that is alongside 5 total failures - melons Alvaro and Magenta, cauliflower All The Year Round, leek Musselburgh (a big surprise as the seeds were fine last year but failed completely this time) and turnip Purple Top Milan (old seed).
