  • Blue flowering pea variety

I could have sworn I had seen a blue flowering pea (edible/vegetable) on here recently but am stuffed if I can find it now. Can anyone name some varieties of blue flowering peas please? or if I wasn't imagining things - point me in the direction of the right thread please?

Are you thinking of Kent Blue? Its flowers are quite blue when mature, although they start off pink and maroon like several other varieties. They are the last variety shown on this page.

You are not meant to tell me that . I might have to just move in - keep sending SAE's. Mind you I have nothing new to send the VSP so that might be a blessing in
              disguise

              Thank you all

There are some Goldensweet in the VSP too
I've grown them - very pretty with their purple flowers and yellow pods.

VC I think you need to use that naughty stick on ya'self keep encouraging people

Thankfully I have Goldensweet, but I don't remember any of mine having blue flowers

After this thread it just goes to show that that doesn't mean a thing

Kent Blue are lovely - nice as mangetout, but also good as a young fresh pea. Highly recommend them, though I'm not that keen on mangetout meself.

Thought you might like a photo of the young and mature flowers from this year:

                      Goldensweet mangetout.

The flowers change colour so quickly, they look blue and purple
Here's some I grew last year

They're much darker than my Goldensweet, where did yours come from? Mine are originally Real Seeds and although I've been saving them for years they've always been pale, definitely mauve not purple. Lovely tasting whichever though.

like most things "blue", they're probably just purple ?

Alison, I wasn't too impressed with the taste of my Goldensweets, compared to the Delikata I also grew. Maybe there are some different lines about? I'd be interested to try some of yours, do you think you could send some in to the VSP? I'm planning to ask VC for a swap later when I've sorted my seeds and she's sorted her puppies

I can't remember where the ones I grew in the photos came from but this year I grew T&M Goldensweet. Not that impressed TBH but I've saved some seeds for the 2014 Seedswap.
I'm going to stick with Bijou mangetout from now on. May not have blue flowers but they make a massive Mangetout
