Mildew and Milk

I read somewhere that downy mildew on toms etc can be treated with watered down milk.
Has anybody tried this as I have no idea if specific growing conditions are needed for this to work (or not).

I hear it works to control mildew on roses too....definitely worth a try.

Thank you both - I think I read it in a John Harrison book but I'm not sure,

I tried it the year before last on my cukes. Can't say it was a raging success.

One theory I read was that milk was good against potato blight, another fungal disease. They argued that blight thrives in moist, slightly acidic conditions so the calcium in milk would neutralize it!

Big problem, fresh milk is acidic (lactic acid) so you are more likely to aggravate the problem.
