Planted mine in a bag in the far corner of the greenhouse it's now growing along all the walls, through the toms, melons, chillies, bananas, citrus etc and is currently on its fourth set of flowers - can't get near it to have a poke about

Oh, I better have a read up. I thought it would be another one you left if the ground for several weeks after the frost kills the tops

No flowers on mine but plenty of greenery which is starting to die off in places. Hoping there are some tubers in the bucket but I don't want to disturb it yet.

Heres mine lurking in the corner. It's vines are spreading about the green house but hiding under (and through) everything else so hard to photo.

I think I may have cracked it after all these years. It may only be the one tuber but it is a tuber After having a gurgle it seems you should let foliage die before harvesting.

                    Congratulations.

I'm still waiting for mine to die, although the foliage is starting to look unhealthy now so hopefully won't be too long.

Forgive me Jay as I've never had any luck with SP's (No pun intended.........) but I thought they grew on the ground & rooted from the vines joints, similar to this:

Possibly, but although the vines grew through the toms, peppers, bananas and melons they didn't root in any of them

mine have only have the initial root where I planted them (which is where the tuber is).

Well I can happily report that I was successful enough never to bother again. I managed to produce half a dozen fair sized tubers, however I spent too long waiting for the plants to die off that the tubers had started to rot in the ground. Which is fine as I now know it is possible but in all fairness it is not worth the fuss.
