Went to lottie with the intention of digging and weeding the last big bed so it could be covered - err nope! The soil was frozen solid and to get the weeds outs meant chucking away most of the soil as well and that would have virtually emptied the bed.
So, pruned the hedge so that we could walk down the slab path without having eyes poked out - started digging up the turf in the cage and drank 2 coffees.
Back again tomorrow to see if the soil has defrosted.
Oh bo bo I just though if I had covered it with plastic before I came home it won't freeze again tonight.
Sometimes my numb nuttiness surprises even me!
I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work. Thomas A. Edison

Sowed some Bunyards Exihibition Broad beans, Early Onward Peas, more of the chilli seeds sent by VC for viability testing, plus some sweetie and orange pear cherry toms. Also potted up another 100 Stuttgarter Onions before cleaning out the banties coop.
What do you get if you divide the circumference of a pumpkin by its diameter?

A few days ago, made list of what needs doing at the plots, before planting takes place, the previously sown broadies are starting to grow a root, yes i do a poke about,to day we screwed some used plastic roofing sheets to the bottom of the brassica net cage,in the hope of deflecting the cold winds thus giving them a warmer feel, another of our cages is still in progress,i plan to put large holed netting up,and see if the squash will climb it,i had a tromba grow up a solid frame inside and do well,so we shall see,
sigpicAnother nutter ,wife, mother, nan and nanan, love my growing places, seed collection and sharing, also one of these
Let chickens into the polytunnel today. They are great at turning over my beds ready for planting. They also take care of any weeds popping up in there. Helped my son snow his basil and coriander seeds and my daughter has taken apple seeds from her apple at school and terminated them in a wet paper towel she has now got a root so I helped her plant it up. I thought this was great, both of them taking an interest.

Finished digging my new - and last - bed at the allotment. Finished pruning the Bramley apple tree and started on the eating apple tree. Strimmed (strum?) some of the grass paths. The snowdrops I planted in the autumn are peeking their heads up!
Gardening is cheaper than therapy and you get tomatoes
Gosh just noticed my horrid post I have a new tablet and the stupid thing changes all my words so sorry. It was sow seeds and germinated. Quite embarrassing should be able to write at my age haha.

Spent the morning shifting 12 buckets of tarmac chippings into my friend's greenhouse in an attempt to stop rats from living under the shelving and grow beds. The challenge will be getting it level enough to stand the shelving units on...
Harvested the first sprig of PSB of the year.
Planted 100 onion sets under fleece at home and put some parsnip seeds to chit (not done this before).
Decided to be clever and make a home made pizza to eat some of the tomato sauce with rather than yet more pasta. Making the dough - no problem. Rolling out the dough was a completely different matter. I rolled it, it stuck to the rolling pin. I unstuck it, it shrunk back to the size it was before. Eventually I got it sort of flat and baked it on paper as recommended in the recipe. It stuck to the paper. If you have ever tried peeling stuck on paper off a hot pizza with a sloppy topping running off when you tilt it you will understand why I think I will stick to pasta in future! It did taste nice though.
