Finally got round to pruning 3 apple & 2 pear trees on the plot.
Also finished off cutting down the Autumn raspberries.
Filled up the compost bin with household and garden waste.
Had a chat with Bill & Mick who were also on their plots.

If you can't provide artificial heat I would tend to wait a while longer as the plants will be very big by the time it is safe to plant them in an unheated greenhouse. I sow my outdoor toms in April and still find they are a bit big before the weather warms up enough for them to go out under cover.
I was planning on sowing them in an unheated widownsill propagator and keeping them in the living room window which has a large radiator underneath. The room is normally about 20 degrees.

What the benefits of a heated progagator?

        • They'll germinate OK indoors, its whether you have enough well-lit space to grow them on afterwards. They'll start stretching to the light on windowsills.

          • We finished the last bed digging - whoop whoop. Raked some of it and covered with some cloches ready for my onions (that are happily growing in pots in the porch) and early carrots.

              • Last few days have been spent raking. Leaves everywhere lol. Amazing what a good rake can do discovered loads of lovely snow drops. Lots of bulbs coming up too which is surprising as usually February here is freezing.

                • Yesterday I dug over the first of 4 beds I am putting in and waged a war against couch grass. I got some odd looks as my plot neighbours were pulling their's out and straight into compost bins. I was putting it in sacks to take away!

                        • Went to JTFs today and was very good. All I got was some spray to clean the green house with.

Oh and a leather tool belt for my trowel and stuff.

And obviously there's the compost, 4 70 litre bags to tide me over for a couple of weeks.

If I'd bought them then, I could have been eating them by now
