        • Found this in a yoghurt pot, the two larger leaves have been attacked from vine weevils last year. Hopefully we've rounded them all up.

            • Sowed cauliflowers and Kale. Bought a Butternut Squash plant for £1.20 from the local GC which was cheaper than buying seeds for one plant. Also bought a roll of fleece because of next weeks weather predictions!

              • Work, car problems and tadpole watching (allotment pond) led this week to a serious lack of progress in the masterplan. Only time to keep existing beds sorted.

And then there was the watering and watering and WATERING! Butts used long since so backwards and forwards from communal trough with 2 watering cans. Luckily, for my waistline but not my back, my plot is the furtherest/farthest(neither looks right) from the trough.

On the plus side- 4 aspargus spears, all seeds seem to be germinating and seedlings look good. Each time I gave up on sown peas, I planted a new lot around another bed, now have peas bordering 5 beds.
No matter:the allotment is lovely, the tadpoles have legs, my sea kale has germinated and I am glad to be home.

                    • Waited for rain all day while occupying myself by continuing with my woven fence and some more tadpole watching. Gave up at seven and watered the most needy beds for the next hour. It is pleasantly damp as I write- will possibly be able to get a spade in the ground tomorrow! Fence is coming along though.

                        • Dug over a particularly weedy bed (mostly thistles and dandelions) or else i would have just mulched it! Planted up with Desiree potatoes.
Cut some horticultural fleece and wrapped up my toms, peppers, pumpkins and courgettes with it. These are in the greenhouse but a frosty night is forecast.

                          • Pulled soil over all my potato plants to hide all the greenery from potential frosts today and tomorrow.
Planted the dormant gladioli corms I saved from last year: about 80 of them.
Plugged a fan heater into the greenhouse to keep my tomatoes cosy.

I did that yesterday as well. Will probably be warm now!

Today, I potted on my French Beans. I only planted them a few days ago, in little cells, and I've been astonished at how rapidly they grew! I now have six in small pots which they will soon outgrow. Hopefully, the risk of frost will pass before too long and I'll be able to plant them out properly. I plan to put one each in a flower bucket and they'll be attached up a fence post, as I dont have much floor space.

                              • Sowed some Potimaron and Patipan squash. Planted up some surplus Belle de Fontenay potatoes in pots. Also a bit of grass cutting as we had been away for a few days.Moved some broad bean seedlings out into the cold frame to harden off.
