Not been to the lotty today but turned 3 daleks of compost at home. One of them had lost it's lid and filled with water. It was really smelly, soaking wet and made it a really heavy job. I've mixed it will with the others so hopefully it will compost down now.

I've watched the rain. Sorted my problems with the vine. Accepted my one and only friend request. I just don't do them but made an eggception for this one. Done a load of washing to hang out if it ever stops raining, re-arranged my wardrobe, watched some more rain, fell asleep for a while, looked at the vine again. Been a really good day so far

Not sure how I missed this whole thread out - just discovered it. Anyway, happy discovery and all that
Spent a happy couple of hours in the PT rearranging it to try and make some more room, bit hard with 3 tomato plants still in there and a raspberry bush, and potting on some badly chewed Chinese Cabbage - luckily I've got some that do look OK as well. I don't know where the time goes in there but it goes pretty quickly unfortunately. If I could just teach OH to cook then I could stay longer.LOVE growing food to eat in my little town back garden. Winter update: currently growing overwintering onions, carrots, lettuce, chard, salad leaves, kale, cabbage, radish, beetroot, garlic, broccoli raab, some herbs.

Bit late posting what I've done! Been busy with Kitchen renovations. Last sat (4th Oct) managed to get down the lottie and plant out 4 rows of overwintering onions. Senshyu and Radar. Managed 56 sets each onion. Hopeful for 100 onions harvest!Last edited by marcofez; 07-10-2015, 07:13 PM.

This morning:
Pulled up a few more spent sweetcorn and bean plants.
Raked over one of my newly empty raised beds.
Transplanted some self seeded chard that my plot neighbour kindly said I could have - 3 in the raised bed and three in the tunnel.
Sowed 20 onion sets in a module tray in the tunnel.
Noticed an explosion of botrytis amongst the remaining tomato cordons in the tunnel - stripped all the affected foliage off. I'll give the remaining fruit a couple more weeks to ripen and then the plants will come out.
Not bad for 45 minutes!He-Pep!

Pulled up the squash vine rambling through my second crop of leeks. Was planted as a Crown Prince, but turned out to be a Blue Hubbard. Cool.
Weeded said leeks, did some hoeing, weeded along the hedge border, which is going to have a path eventually.

Fed Gert, Maud and Elsie turnip and radish plants - bald ex bats attacking a radish with obvious intent to subdue it is something to behold,
Got the last of the garlic in.
Groaned when the post delivered 10 more seed packets from T&M who had posted them in a 'living plant' box.I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work. Thomas A. Edison

Managed to finally to get a few of my red onion sets planted. Problem is i need to harvest stuff before I have enough space.
Gathered constituents of an allotment broth. Parsnip, swede, tatties, leeks, onions, carrots, mooli and kin-tsai. Also lifted some beetroot for boiling. My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order

A busy weekend what with trying to move allotments, I finally moved the last of my stuff from old shed to new shed, all I've got to do now is pay the rent.
Old allotment - picked the last of the beetroot, boiled when I got home. I must sow far more beetroot next year. Picked my final cauliflower, out of 6 plug plants I only ended up with two cauli's will try from seed next year. Cut down the French beans and moved the canes to new allotment.
New Allotment - planted some spring bulbs and a rose bush that I got from Aldi. I did a bit of digging but it was a bit too wet. Put coldframe in a sheltered position next to the shed and put my sweetpeas in it along with some cabbage. Harvested raspberries, I've loads of raspberries still to come, just wish I knew what variety they were. Harvested some radish and sowed some more seeds. Transplanted some lettuce. Planted Onion and Garlic.Bex

It was a sad day shutting the garden down till next year. Pulled out the pumpkins and the last of the onions, pulled the tomatillo plants out and gathered in the chicken wire, pulled up the last Mooli Minos which came with this mag which were great, good results and used them in an Asian lunch froze the rest. Emptied the water barrels, cleaned and took them in and took down the mini greenhouse.
Still a few things in the ground, root parsley, leek, swedes, last tomatoes hoping to ripen, more leaf parsley to make pesto but this was the main shut down day.

Picked my olives for curing, now only have to wash and rinse twice a day for 2 weeks and then wait a few months before eating. Hopefully it will be worth it.
Saved some tomato seed, for the neighbour.
Mostly just pottered.I grow 70% for us and 30% for the snails, then the neighbours eats them

Finally gave up waiting for the Belle tomatoes (beefsteak variety) to ripen in the growhouse. Cut off the final 3 fruits (the rest have mostly already come to a sticky end) and brought them inside to ripen. No idea why I persist in trying to grow beefsteak tomatoes in my garden - I have yet to eat a ripe one.
Growhouse is now empty so took the opportunity to remove the self watering trays and give the whole thing a good clean ready for the Christmas potatoes to come in when frost is forecast. That is if I don't find anything else to put in there first...
My lawn is now covered with bits of capillary matting, trays and tray shelves trying to dry off.
Also cooked the day's quota of ripe tomatoes for the freezer.A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP. - Leonard Nimoy

Planted out the last of my onion sets today.
Had to reduce the space between them as space is at a premium.
Tomatoes still growing outdoors so cant use that space.
And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.
