  • A sad harvest for me, been contending with rust on my garlic and today noticed a couple had laid down over night, lifted them to find white rot. Decided to cut my loses and dug them all and burnt them......did smell nice though

      • The first three tomatoes and the 51st pound of strawberries. No that isn't a typo. There are still more to come!

          • I am soooooooooooooo proud, little gem lettuces, few spring onions, 5 baby carrots (Mokum Hybrid) and 1 1/2 lbs of Pentland Javlin, disappointed with the amount of potatoes for a plant but I think I have not been watering enough. Will know better next year but then when I dig more and see what happens especially the ones in the black bags. This gardening is satisfying, wish I had started doing this years ago, still I am doing it now. The food really, really taste so different.

            • Oh I am so jealous of Cilla having spring onions and baby carrots. My carrots are only just above soil level (I was very very late) and for the 2nd year running me and spring onions don't seem to be working out as they don't even germinate. I even tried new seed - nope!
Yesterday I did however, munch through 8 goosegogs and numerous strawberries while mowing the bald, patchy, even lawn!
Last night I used homegrown onion, red kale, green kale and garlic for tea.

              • Garlic, little gems, rocket, chard and first beetroot - chioggi and red.
No matter:the allotment is lovely, the tadpoles have legs, my sea kale has germinated and I am glad to be home.

                        • Strawberries, lettuce, radish, red and green kale plus some spuds and gave them to Kitty (next door but 2) who is undergoing chemo at the moment and is an ardent veggie.

                              • More strawberries - nothing on the Nicos scale mind you
Casablanca spuds now at 6lb from one tub
Not a bad start. By the time we get to tub 18, the yield should be better
I am going to try and document yields this year to see what's best for us
