I didn't plant them Bob. They've been here for 30+ years that I know of - living peacefully together. Neither taking over from the other.

Right! Glad this subject as come to light!
Was thinking of banging a load of "English" bluebells in the base of the the raspberry bed, and was also told I'd "Be Sorry"
My interpretation were that "English" bluebells were not that much of a "Thug"
Is my thinking wrong?"Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit, wisdom is knowing not to put it in a fruit salad"

Just getting in under the wire with my April pics!
First broad bean and pea seedlings are in as are the early potatoes. The soft fruit is all looking good and we should have our first crop off the rhubarb this year.

Not a lot happening on my plot just yet (I'm itching to really get stuck in with outdoor crops) but this past month I've planted two beds of potatoes (Easter Monday), got a few salad crops sown in the tunnel which are just coming through now and sown loads of hardy annual seeds and planted a few perennial flowers in the bed next to the gate...certainly took advantage of last week's hot weather to spend a few hours every day on the plot
Tomorrow I need to finish off the four raised beds and finish digging the bed next to the greenhouse.

A white frost on the rooftops this morning, and fleece and cloches everywhere - you can tell its May!
The view from the back bedroom window is now completely obscured by tomato plants, so I've taken a similar shot from ground level
From the lawn facing south
Early potatoes (Rocket) in the growhouse. Carrots in the square pots under the big net, potatoes under the smaller net (being used as a framework to attach fleece to). Pots of cabbage, spinach and namenia. You can see from the position of the fleece on the potato cage that as well as being freezing cold, it is also quite windy today.
From the lawn facing north east
The apple tree is now covered in blossom, and fleece at night. Peas growing well . Flower bed still looking empty.
With my back to the garage wall
Flowers on the strawberries and blueberries (and more fleece) and potatoes (under the cloches on the right) doing battle for space with the PSB. You can't see them, but the raspberries under the shelving and the rhubarb behind the wooden compost bin are both growing well.
From the south east corner
The strawberry tower (which blew over) has been moved onto the garden seat and it and the mizuna have been replaced by buckets of potatoes with a cloche greenhouse over. The net beyond houses my oriental greens, some lettuce, kohlrabi and turnips. Still pondering what I will do about covering the frame of the fruit cage, as I really want veggiemesh, not bird netting (which the birds got tangled up in last year).A life is like a garden. Another little update on progress.
Getting to the point now where we can actually plant stuff, rather than dig, dig, dig!
Compost bins increased by one, will be using the extra pallets as decking for a seating area in front of the shed
It makes a nice change to do some light work for a change, although there is still plenty of the plot to sort yet!
Our Desiree poked their heads up yesterday, so the goyt earthed up a bit. Still no signs of my earlies yet, may have planted them a little deeper than I thought....Last edited by Taterhead; 05-05-2015, 07:10 PM.'The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.'

Looking great Taterhead. I found my Desiree came up earlier than the Charlotte even though I planted them a few days later. I guess they are just more enthusiastic than some!A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP. - Leonard Nimoy

View of the Hill - April 2015
From my manure skip vantage point:
During the month I have:
- got rid of the majority of the horrible out of control compost bins by donating the twiggy contents to gardener Zoe on the next plot for a bonfire
- replanted the strawberry bed - properly this time, with lots of good compost mixed in and topped with black weed suppressant
- planted the main crop spuds (picasso and carolus)
- sowed all the tender crops (peas/beans/squash) and brassicas all in pots at home for planting out in the next month or so
- pulled rhubarbAttached Files
