I grew 3 huge Crown Prince pumpkin last year, I got them as plants, am using the last one up now and wonder if it would be worthwhile saving some of the seeds for this year? Or might they produce something v different?

All bar Sarah Raven call it Squash and say its F1.

The image Sarah Raven uses is, according to Google, only used on some other foreign sites ... but it looks a lot like the fruit produced by the others.

Long story short (sorry!) if its F1 then probably-no-chance

But even if it isn't, the whole squash family are very promiscuous, so its likely it has cross pollinated with something else in your garden

Being an F1 Hybrid Dotty, I doubt they'd come true, but hey, others may have a different opinion!

I won't bother then, not worth risking it, they were superb, so will try and find plants again.

Why not try from seed Dotty? a lot cheaper than buying plants, and you get seed for sowing next year if you were that impressed!

If I can find seeds I will. The plants I bought were from a local 'open day charity event, at the Bishops garden, and were very good value, much less than GC, I bought 3 plants all different pumpkin/squash, the Crown prince produced 3 plants, about £1.50, or similar.

The smaller suppliers I use have:
3 seeds for £1.75 @Moreveg, or, 8 seeds for £2.25 @Plants of Distinction.

The Moreveg picture looks more of a steel blue/grey skin then the PoD picture does.
Not sure which is the more accurate.

Crown Prince is definitely an F1.But though you can't save the seeds, most of the seed suppliers stock them. Whangaparoa Crown is supposed to be very similar in flavour, but is an open pollinated variety so you can isolate the flowers and save seed.
