  • I've started my potatoe chitting today, the porch is, to coin a phrase, 'spud central'

    • Gone for an attempt at some very early potatoes by planting 3 well chitted Rocket tubers in a 30l pot in my friend's greenhouse. I've wrapped the pot in bubble wrap and put it in the sunniest position, and hopefully it will be ok. It doesn't matter if it isn't as I bought far too many seed potatoes in a rash moment!

Yesterday I planted 100 onion sets under fleece in my veg garden. I am probably gtting carried away by the nice weather - its definitely like spring out there today.

      • Toms indoors, cabbage, leek, sprouts and sweet peas in warm porch. Radish, early carrots and spinach in containers for the garden.

An absolutely fantastic day - a nice 22 degrees in the tunnel too..

              • Two varieties of leeks have now been planted up in a window box on the kitchen counter, so they should be good in there until June or so when they go into their final position. Fingers crossed starting this early will give them a head start and finally achieve the so called "pencil thickness" i so frequently appear to miss.

Also planted some hollyhock, lupins, petunia, nasturtiums and sweatpeas from gathered seed.

Also sowed cress (does that even count?) and some rocket, peas & basil for indoor munching.
Did any germinate? I've got some from the VSP too? I haven't put mine in yet

                  • Today I planted a single tuber of Arran Pilot in a bucket in the cold greenhouse. I've never done this before, it'll be interesting to see if I can keep the frost off and get a meal from it in May.

                        • Could you keep the bucket indoors until it shows signs of growth. May be warm enough to put it out in the GH then.

                          • I haven't had much luck with T&M either - hate to say it when they're local to me. All the others seemed fine. Especially those expensive Itslian Franchi ones but they are big packs good for sharing.

Sowed Red Bristow and Grano Precoce Broad beans in modules, Kelvedon Wonder peas in bits of guttering and a tray of mixed lettuces.
Also 5 different sorts of ornamental Allium - Christophii, Cernuum, Sicilian Honey Garlic, Unifolium and some mixed ones.
Planted out some more Aquadulce Simonita Broadie seedlings to join those that went out a few weeks ago and look very healthy.
Good to see compost under my fingernails again
