Hi JJ, have you grown samphire before - if so I would love some info about it.
No matter:the allotment is lovely, the tadpoles have legs, my sea kale has germinated and I am glad to be home.

    • Today I sowed Broccoli (Autumn) Green Calabrese, Pumpkin "Atlantic Giant" and lettuce "All The Year Round", all in pots / modules. The modules with lettuce in are now in a plastic bag in the fridge until tomorrow morning to guarantee fast germination. Hats off to whichever Grape taught me this trick!

First time growing it,there's some info on the pack;sow till end of may, takes 5-20 days to germinate, once germinated water with a solution of one pint water/one teaspoon sea salt not table salt. Grows indoors,in a pot or the ground. Harvest till November, can be treated as cut & come again.

        • Put more courgette seed to 'chit', hope these will germinate.

Re-sowed sweet corn, previous lot, no germination at all!

Planted out 10 Tom plants into final pots, still more to go.

Sowed some Chinese Cabbage seed (Best Before 12/2013 so might not do anything).

                  • Today I sowed a tray of lettuce,4 pots of lovage,8 more pots of runner beans 'celebration' & 12 dwarf sunflowers 'sunspot'. I have grapes growing for the first time in about 4 years of not knowing how to prune it properly & I still don't know but it should have a strong root system.

                        • Sowed some brussel sprouts. Bit late, but just about okay, I hope. I only have room for one or two, preferably one. Do you need two for germination?

Also sowed some runner beans. Have to sow some french beans as well, but may not be able to manage that today.

                          • My belief is that you only need a pollinator (Insects) if you want to save seed. As for growing Sprouts for food, you don't need 2 plants.

                            • Yesterday I sowed 4 Arran pilot seed potatoes that have been on my windowsill since February. They're not mouldy or rotten, green leaf starting to show,I think they'l be alright, couldn't throw them away, just incase. (What happened,is I harvested some & they're that nice, that I need endless supply).
