  • Question about watering .....

    Hi all,
I am totally new to growing my own veg, which i do on my balcony. I also keep tropical fish.
My question is this, can i use the '' dirty '' water from my fish tank to water my plants, after i have done a water change ?
I don't use any chemicals in my tank apart from a chlorine / chloramine remover. The water would be full of nitrites, and nitrates.

On my balcony i have spring onions, runner beans, peas, potatoes, corn salad, and tomatoes.

My thanks in advance for any help.

    Hi NW-Balcony

I'm pretty new to growing too, or at least haven't done it for a while and we keep fish - but not tropical. So i'm probaly not going to be much help!.
But here goes... What about trying two plants/seedlings of the same variety, in different pots. Water one with your usual source and the other with tank water.
Personaly i can't see it being a problem, especially when you take in to consideration some of the real 'crap' that has been put on to plants in the past.
Let us know what you do and how you get on

    goodluck

I'm sure that I've read in one of my aquarium books that the fish water is good for plants (high nitrogen content), NW, but I'll check in the morning.

Happy growing, and welcome to the vine!

I've been doing that for some years now.
