I keep having to turn the radio up here to cover the noise of the river below us but we are on a hill so unless the 2m deep ditch beside us fills we should be ok.

We're not next to a river, but the water table is so high here that when it rains repeatedly for long enough, we find mini springs all over our garden, in the barn, in the chicken shed, everywhere! And great pools of water that sit in various parts of the garden for weeks. Luckily nothing I'd describe as proper 'flooding' though so far - at least not since we put the drainage ditch in behind the barn, which used to become a giant paddling pool... Murphy's Law of course - in the summer we'll all be complaining about drought, and our little well will be dry as a bone!
