Now I have retired I have real time to think about what I spend on gardening and what options lend themselves best for recycling. I noticed that the trays used to pack beef and chicken are almost identical to half sized seed trays. The big challenge I have is making drainage holes. Using a knife just causes the plastic to split. Anyone have a great way for making drainage holes in recycled plastic trays?

Have you checked whether your local garden centre has a pot recycling space? It's handy for getting a lot of pots for free.http://mudandgluts.com - growing fruit and veg in suburbia

I use a corkscrew, or a bradawl. You dont need many holes or big ones if they are used for seed sowing.
