  • Potato in sacks.

    Hi

Going to give potatoes another go.
It's been a couple of years since I tried and failed but want to try again.

    What compost should/could I us?

    Thanks

I used J Arthur Bowers Multi-Purpose Compost and it worked for me.

There are various threads on this subject but from what I can remember from them watering is key once the plants start to grow. Don't rely on rain water getting in. Whichever compost you use, the nutrients will have been used up by 4-6 weeks so feeding is important too. Potty will be along not doubt at some point to share his pearls of wisdom.

How did it previously fail? Did you have bushy growth with no potatoes? Most composts are good with added potato fertiliser, also some tomorite later on in their growth, same as tomatoes...

I use anything available - last year's compost, home made hotbin compost or ordinary mpc. I add blood fish and bone unless its new compost, and I tend to forget to feed them. Plenty of water is essential.

#5 Spot on Wendy. Old compost should be riddled to remove any large lumps, but this is purely so your spuds aren't deformed.

                  Then water and feed.
