Potato Fertiliser - How much to use in containers?

I have purchased some Spuds Galore fertiliser which is 12-11-18 and has a stated application rate of 70g per square metre.

How much would I use in a 9L single spud pot or a 40L multiple spud pot?

Do you know that's an interesting question I use it all the time and really have no idea as to an exact measurement.

If its any help I mix my compost in a 45ltr container and just throw a handful in, then fill my smaller pots from that.

I do the same as potty a small handfull with everything but that sounds good stuff so I'd just work it out by dimensions of you're pot

On the JBA seed potatoe site (which is the fertiliser i used last year) it says this :-

JBA are now able to offer an organic potato fertilizer that has been specially formulated to produce bumper crops of potatoes.

The organic granules provide a slow and even release allowing steady and constant growth.

A definite must for all potato growers. Each box contains 1kg.

Apply 135g/sq.m (4oz per sq.yd) to the soil before planting and gently work into the soil.

For container growing add at a rate of 140g/sq.m (4oz/sq.yd) Equivelent pot size is 30cm (12in) diameter pot - 10g. 38cm (15in) diameter pot - 15g. 50cm(20in) diameter pot - 30g.

For our grower bags we would recommend adding 45g

I am not sure Spunky, but i thought he could work out the calculations on the above and then adapt it to his instructions.

So on jonnys instruction it said
70g per square metre.
On JB it says 140g per square metre for container growing.

If it were me i would halve that for the 3 sized pots mentioned.

30cm diameter pot 5g
38cm diameter pot 7.5g
50 cm diameter pot 15g
Then i would use this as a guide to work out any other sized pots i had to use.

I watch allotment diary on youtube, he's grows potatoes in 30L pots and I made a note the in each pot he uses

110grams of fertilizer (blood fish and bone) or he has used 86grams of vitax q4

Organic potato fertiliser in Poundland at the moment - 1 kg boxes. Seems a good deal as costs a tenner for a kilo on T&M website

£3.49 /1kg at JBA - can't beat Poundland though, for folk who can get to one easily

Wow just googled that fertiliser as well.
It is expensive.
jonnyt can you let us know later in the year how good it is? am interested to see if it as as good as it says it is, but not willing to pay that much for it without knowing the outcome.

I don't find it expensive - I use so little in containers it lasts me years (1kg is enough for 22 containers of 3-tubers each). out in the garden I use a cheaper more generic fertiliser. Also don't know if the brand matters? There might be "more" in the JBA / T&M ones than the Poundland ones? (Might well be that Poundland is buying up bin-end stock though and just stack-high-sell-cheap)

I think i will stick with what i have been using as i get great results and if it aint broken why try to fix it :-)
