My courgettes are just starting to come - eaten 3 small ones and there are 2 more coming, with loads of flowers opening

Hi Augustina - welcome to the vine. I'm sure your plants will be fine, and will keep you going for weeks

And I need to ask - is there a setting to make all the words start with capitals?? I've noticed several posts in the last few days where every word has an initial capital - - makes it hard to read as well (Just me grumbling, with my funny eyes...)
Warning: I have a dangerous tendency to act like I know what I'm talking about.

        a) I've never removed the flowers for the courgettes sake - occassionally they do fall off / show signs of rot. I have taken them off to add colour to a salad tho! I've yet to try the tempura batter as yet

I think in France and the occassional Veg show some people in fact try to leave "present" the courgettes with the flower still attached. Mine - i have to confess - have usually fallen off by the time they get to harvestable stage.

        b) Mildew. Seems to happen every year, but the courgette plants seem to be pretty robust and just get on with it. I take away the worst leaves if i think that they can't contribute to the plants growth any further or look so unpresentable on the veg patch that they need to be removed but leave them be otherwise.

Do what you can to avoid under watering stress - but they'll be fine I'm sure. That 12' courgette plant may look "cute" now but it'll soon get to a stage where it seems like nothing can stop it going on the rampage!

I'm really upset about my courgettes :0( They were doing fantastically & were bearing courgettes till all the blasted rain, now the flowers & veg have rotted & the leaves have mildew on. to top it all I notice one now has blackfly! looks like out of my 5 plants I'm destined to get no courgettes to eat............grrrrr!

I was wondering what was happening to my courgette plants this year. I've had a grand total of 3 courgettes to eat so far, and many of the leaves on my 2 plants are turning yellow, and there seems to be a white powdery coating on many of the leaves. Is this mildew, and is there any hope for my plants?? I am growing them in a large container on my balcony, I don't have any easy replacements if these ones died!
