That always gets my goat too. My mother is a leading light in that particular movement!

I use BQ MPC, but am getting fed up with sifting twigs, plastic and stones out of it. And seeing the Which award from 2 years ago plastered all over the current bags. I fondly remember my bags of 2013 and they are not the same as the bags in store now.

Am thinking of switching to peat free and will give a bag of NH a go, thanks for the info about it.

Please be aware that New Horizon is made by Sinclair and not all products are created equally.

      For example:

New Horizon Organic Garden Compost (not to be confused with the MPC)
Blend of screened and composted green waste for use as a mulch and soil conditioner

New Horizon Multi-Purpose Compost (Organic & Peat FREE)
      Coir, Bark, Composted Wood, Fertiliser

New Horizon Vegetable Compost (Organic & Peat FREE)

I've updated the post to reflect the links and will report back if I hear from Sinclair. At the bottom of this page you will find the 2nd and 3rd product from my post:

Composts | William Sinclair | Gardening advice, tips, J Arthur Bower, New Horizons, plant foods, fertilisers, soil products

        However, if you go here:

The Green & Organic Range | William Sinclair | Gardening advice, tips, J Arthur Bower, New Horizons, plant foods, fertilisers, soil products

The COSSH info is missing (although the products appear to be the same, but in different packaging).

Thanks DD for that info ^^^
I wonder whether the ingredients are listed in order, greatest % first - like on food labels?

This is the "Vegetable compost" :-

          3. COMPOSITION/INFORMATION ON INGREDIENTS
          Coir, Bark, Composted Wood, Fertiliser

          Food for thought!!

Perhaps, in which case it might be better to make your own blend from the compressed Coir available at Home B@rgain$, some cheap woody MPC and some BF'N'B

While wearing your night clothes, plant cucumbers on the 1st May before the sun comes up, and they will not be attacked by bugs.

                Reply in from Sinclair:

apologies you could not find this information on our website, we shall endeavour to get it updated asap.
I have attached the MSDS for the products you require.
I trust this will be satisfactory however please do not hesitate to contact me should you need any further information.

                Kind Regards

I've put them here for those interested:

New Horizon Growbag & Giant Growbag (Organic & Peat FREE)
                Coir, Bark, Composted Wood, Fertiliser

new Horizon Vegetable Compost (Organic 7 Peat FREE)
                Coir, Bark, Composted Wood, Fertiliser

                Organic Soil Impover*
                Green Compost, Composted Wood, Fertiliser

                * I assume that the JAB product is the same as the NH product

The sheet they sent for the MPC looks to be a duplicate of the Grow bag and Veg compost data sheet:

New Horizon Multi-Purpose Compost (Organic and Peat FREE)
                Coir, Bark, Composted Wood, Fertiliser
While wearing your night clothes, plant cucumbers on the 1st May before the sun comes up, and they will not be attacked by bugs.

                  Sorry, more in from Sinclair:

Yes the growbag/multi purpose are essentially the same product
the Vegetable compost has the same ingredients but it will be different recipe - ie percentages of ingredients/fertiliser rates contained within, we do not give out this information.
The soil improver is the one shown on this page - Soil Conditioners | William Sinclair | Gardening advice, tips, J Arthur Bower, New Horizons, plant foods, fertilisers, soil products
it is J Arthur Bower branded not New Horizon.
Any problems please let me know.

Alison I had done my research before posting, maybe you should look more closely, when you can. However for some reason at this time I don't seem to be able to access NH data sheets.

                    Thank you David

Not Compost but my local Wyevale are selling bags of composted farmyard manure off for 2,50 a bag

No MPC - all sold at the weekend but Wyevale have a nationwide clear out off various products as they have changed packaging/supplier/bagsize

I'm sure you know but Composted Farmyard Manure is a conditioner, not a part feed as per MPC.

However the link above claiming to be for MPC takes you to their grow bag stuff which appears to contain coir, the MPC data sheet is here - http://www.molevalleyfarmers.com/mvf.../pdf/61053.pdf (hope that works, struggling to paste on the tablet). It says the same on the packaging.

                            Hi Alison,

The document you link to is from 2002, the documents (in my later post) were obtained from William Sinclair today and were drafted in Dec 2014.

I would double check, but they explicitly stated that the documents they provided were correct for the NH MPC (Organic & Peat FREE). Their contact details are in them and to be fair, they replied fairly swiftly to my queries.

All I know is the one I left in my link above which says its for multi purpose compost opens up as for two types of grow bags, follow your link. Interesting if they have changed it though as the bag I checked in the shed (admittedly from last year) backed up what I thought ie not containing coir.

OK, done a bit more digging. The Sinclair site seems to link to the wrong data sheet so don't seem to be able to pull up a more up to date one. However, there seems to be two products titled as MPC. The one I use which is down as Organic Peat Free and on Sinclairs site is made from a blend of composted bark, timber and green material and another one (which I don't think I've ever seen) called Coir Multi Purpose Compost which, unsurprisingly, contains coir.
