Squirrel(s)!

Just had a squirrel trying to pinch me nuts - ooh err missus. Chased it off the birds peanuts and 'pegged at it' (embarrasingly the sheep in the field behind us were more at risk than the pesky squirrel)....

Thinking ahead (a first ) what other stuff, veggie-wise, might the squirrel have a go at if given chance?

I've had a squirrel pinch one of my onion sets and one just dug up a whole row of turnip seeds. I've tried netting: time taken to put up netting pinning down etc 20mins, time taken for cat to get caught in netting; less than five minutes. I've now instructed the cats to chase the squirrel - so far they've ignored me.

Hmmm - onion sets not gone out yet (due to a bit of rain today!), so I'll keep an eye on them - normally we blame 'Spot' our male blackbird. Not got a cat anymore so I'll have to keep amusing the neighbours with my 60 yd dash and throw! :-)

bulbs (planted or not), bird food (fat balls, nuts etc), seeds, anything else they can get their mits on.

Guru nick you know I'm a veggie - I try not to even eat pea moth larvae!!! ...but they are just vermin.

The greys that visit us tend to like swapping bulbs from one garden to another so that we all stand there going 'I don't remember planting that'. My next door neighbour was pleased one year though as the squirrel had planted an acorn which rooted & he's growing into a bonsai. I jusy peg wire netting over tubs of plants & I've tried pushing garlic cloves in with bulbs as the smell sometimes puts them off. This obviously wouldn't work on the ones who pinched blackkitty's onions though!
