I take it compost with loads of little bits and pieces in it dries out quicker?

Never had compost like this before. Will they rot down a bit over the course of the year?

      • I've used similar compost & it's been fine, nothing unusual,if it's not very meaty it might not hold water as well as other composts,it will probably be ok though.

We shall see. I've potted them into little 9cm pots now. If they start doing well in those I'll know they're going to be fine to go into 10 ltr pots with the same compost. If they don't do well in the 9cm pots I'll know it's the compost and get some different stuff for the 10 ltr pots.

I've got a plan (for once) lol.

          • If they don't grow well you could try a bit of feed, sometimes some composts lack any nutrients.

I've got plenty of Growmore and BFB, so I'll try that.

This is the first time I have used this compost its canny, quite fluffy and light once sieved. Ive started my seedligs off in this and will be using it for hanging baskets.

Seems like a good price. Does it happen to list its peatiness?

I've been using Westland MPC for the last few years and its fine - sometimes a bit chunky, but I've not had any problems with germination.

                      • I've always had good seedling results with Verve. I buy the 120 litre packs so it's very cheap. It needs seived but I've rarely found anything in there that shouldn't be. I wouldn't use it solely to grow in long term, but as a mixer or early seedling medium I like it.

                        • Bought some bags of Wickes MPC at the weekend to fill up some new raised beds and it looked really nice, a lot better than last year and not full of big pieces. Will be getting some more to use for sowing so will post full details then, but based on this first batch , it looked great.

I've never had a problem with Verve either I don't bother sieving before use but I do use another plant pot as a sieve to cover the seeds.

I've had a quick flick through and see the westlands stuff is listed from last year. Any other info anyone?
