Some years ago I found on my plot a crisp bag which had loads of snails on it
So I decided to place a few here and there in shady spots and discovered that the snails loved parking on them in the daytime
It must be the flatness and coldness of the foil
Putting a stone in will keep them in place

Most people on here try to work out how to dissuade snails from their plots, attracting them to one is different, at least for here.

That's the point Kirk, you know where they are. In the crisp packets snacking on the crumbs and keeping moist and slimy. Same principle as grapefruit halves etc for sheltering slugs init.

It also makes it easier and cleaner to lob the full crisp packet over the fence onto the neighbour's plot.

I mis-remembered reading this old thread

and thought it might be the aluminum foil in the crisp packet but apparently not as the aluminum pie tin and cucumber repels them not attracts them.

Does anybody know if the pie tin works, by the way?

Whats curious is that if there are 10 on a packet and I dispose of them all the next day there wont be any the following day
But if I leave 1 there others will join it

I'd test the theory myself, but I don't get snails, only slugs.

I didn't think I got many snails on my plot until I grew climbing French beans last year - when I found about 40 massive ones all hiding in the mass of tangled vines at the top of the canes!
