What's lurking in your seed box?

Confession time again

I have a box of unusual veggie seeds that I have never grown. The box is opened, the seed packets pulled out and read, then they go back in the box Somehow, I keep making excuses not to grow them. Maybe its not the right time of year, I don't know enough about their requirements, there isn't a suitable place or its raining and I want another coffee.

In my box there's Perilla, Orache, Amaranth/callaloo and tree spinach. There are others but I can only confess to so much at a time!

Can you persuade me to grow any of these this year? Am I missing out on a real taste experience?

Do you have any veg seeds that you just never get round to sowing? Don't let me be the only one with this guilty secret

I have watercress, celery, pakchoi, ulloco (tubers), culinary dandelion, skirret....help! And about 10 packets of PSB...

Strawberries; I tried growing a tray from seed last year. Nada. Not one germinated. So although I should have sown the 2/3 types I've accumulated from the mag I'm hesitant.

Lettuce; I have many types of seed in the box, but they always seem to be really hard to grow, especially with the slugs around here, or I don't water them enough and they bolt. I'm afraid my plants have to learn to cope if I'm not watering every day!

Pak choi, grew it a few years ago, had visions of the beautiful things on the picture growing on my plot, I actually watered those, but half had almost bolted before their second leaf.

Never have the problem, as mice tend to get to my seeds before I get to sow them, so even though I should have a seed collection fit for a king, when I come across an untouched packet I tend to break down and weep with joy, spilling them all over the floor of the Green house.

Mine would be an entire range of oriental veg.
Read the book, bought the seeds and most have sat in the box for 2-3 years

I haven't tried any of the ones you mention, so I can't convince you. I intend to have the tree spinach in big pots on the patio and I am trying amaranth for the first time this year as well as shark fin melon. (I remember you saying you have that lurking as well and not grown it )

Pak Choi also. Again bolting as soon as it germinates. That or the flea beetle? turns it into a colander.

I'm trying hauzontle this year. And callaloo. Fingers crossed the blessed pigeons don't develop a taste for it.

I seem to have several packets of alpine strawberries (freebies) I must get round to sowing some this year.

Norfolk Grey, don't let that tree spinach flower or you'll be picking it out from the joints in your patio for a lifetime must say though that the colour in a salad is stunning.

The bottom of my seed boxes are usually flowers aubergines, melons and peas

I seem to have a lot of lettuce seeds mostly old packets so I suppose the best idea would be to sow them to eat as micro veg.

Lettuce and herbs for me. Also pak choi and beetroot!

I have 3 varieties of strawberries. Also have loads of "Rubi" strawberry plants grown from seed sown last year which are now ready to plant out. Given some away to my friend as I a had nearly 100% germination.

I am embarrassed by the ridiculous amount of seeds I have amassed.

I have been intending to give myself a good ticking off and donate a large amount to the VSP. I will do it - you heard it here. There.

As for unusual, some - lots of different leaves, herbs (cumin, caraway), artichokes (they were cheap), several types of basil.....who needs 5 different Turnip varieties?

Thanks for the heads up, although it would make a nice change from trying to get the cherries and plums out
