The plants would grow - they are not going to go on strike because the frame desn't face south. The reason for the south facing aspect is to be able to make best use of the ground underneath the sloping top, which will be more shaded if the frame doesn't face south. There are plenty of crops that will grow in more shady areas though.

Mine faces SW hence the partial shading which the lettuce seem to enjoy

What kind of string/twine do you use, Greenleaves?

I'd like to try a munty frame this year but I'm not sure on how many plants I should be planting! I might try to start off 20/30 plants in loo rolls and decide once a frame is up.

Sarico, have you seen the bean teepees? I'm sure you've mentioned having a little girl. Might be a fun hideout for her - perhaps in addition to another growing method.

I plant 2-beans per pot, and grow them up a single cane - I figure there is enough soil / air! and its half the amount of support-structure to build.

Brill, thanks! So maybe 15 biodegradable/homemade newspaper pots, and then see how many I can fit on my frame. Is it sad I'm most excited about beans? I have "cherokee trail of tears" which look v. interesting indeed!

I dont use twine / string, as stated earlier mine is a variation of the theme. I just angle hazel at approximately 65 degrees.

Works just as well for me but beans will still hide but the majority hang down.
