Having just relayed my post to OH, he has magicked me a newspaper pot! They tought then it at school with A4 to make a drinking cup...... my, haven't times changed! we had fountains when I was a kid!!!!
Anyhow, I now have him in full production on the coffee table! I know I picked him for a reason!
Many thanks Mel, would still be interested to know how the gadget works, he will only comply for so long!
there is a site on the web that shows you how to fold paper pots from newspapers. I gave it a go and have to say the resulting pots were firm and thick enough to withstand a lot of water. Here is the link to the site.http://www.geocities.com/newspaperpots/
If you double the size of the paper by using a whole sheet of a broad sheet newspaper rather than half the resulting pot is about 12cm square and quite big enough for larger potting on.

The only problem with the wooden former is that it only comes in one size. If you're any good with a lathe, you could tyurn them in various sizes, Otherwise, you can make a variety of sizes of paper pots by using different bottles/jars as formers.

Have a look at website called self sufficient-ish. They have instructions for making newspaper pots, amongst loads of other great stuff. Cannot remember which grape first mentioned this site - think it was slovenia4us - if it was .....good call, really good site.
