Hello all say I'm growing a cabbage at 450mm spacing how far do you keep them from the insect netting?

just make sure the cabbages dont touch the net once they are grown. So i'd say at most the net should be 225mm from the cabbages near the net.

Maybe 45cm,if that's how much space the plant needs maybe a little bit extra? Imagine the net is another cabbage, they might touch. If the leaves do end up touching the net could you double net the cabbage or make a shield for it?

this is what I'm trying to get my head around Jane if it's 450mm spacing the 2 plants would need 225mm each to touch leaves?
So in theory the whole plants diameter could be roughly 450mm ........basically if I left 300mm from the netting do you think I'd be ok?

1 inch is roughly 25mm so 225mm is about 9 inches and 450mm is roughly 18 inches. I don't bother dividing by 25 though, I just look at my tape measure

300mm is fine if the plant stays within that area of growth, some plants grow bigger than suggested on the packet. I'd make maximum space, but I have suffered with cabbage White butterflies, managing to reach the leaves with their long egg laying tail thing they have.
