broad bean damage

Went to the plot before work this morning.

Amazingly everybody's sheds/polytunnels etc are still in one piece!

However, several of my broad beans have snapped just above soil level

THey are all approx 6 inches tall.

So do I - Direct sow some now? Or maybe in a couple of weeks?

Or should I start some more off in pots at home, then transplant later on?

Lesson learned - Next time I will stake all of them.

You might find they re-grow new shoots. You could always bung a seed in next to them anyway?

No chance of them growing new shoots - THey are on the compost pile!!!!!

I think if you hadn't composted them they may have reshooted from the bottom, however they definitely won't now! I'd do a combination of the above, some direct, some in pots and then you might get some sort of succession.

Mine have reshooted from the bottom where they were damaged from the wind. I will probably get a better crop as there are multiple shoots whereas I only had single stems. Isn't Mother nature wonderful!

Still going to sow some more though as I like broadies!

Mine are still in the greenhouse, probably wont go out for another week, I shall sow a second batch in the middle of April.

Don't know if I was just lucky but

I sowed mine in early December and covered them with debris netting. The site is right by the river and windy as anything but didn't lose a single one melons you they're still only 4-5 inches

Just plant some more, it is early days yet???

Get some Italian Borlotti, they should not planted until early May, unfortunately I planted mine in early March
