Heated Propagators Wow.

Well in the title really.

I've always been a sow in trays or pots in greenhouse person, but this year I've been using a heated propagator and all I've been missing out all this time.

In fact its going a bit to well as I now have more of some varieties/plants than I need so all surplus will be going to other family members.

Been mixing up my seed potting mix a little changing from 40% peat potting mix and horticulture sand to 75% peat potting compost and vermiculite.

Looking to get a couple more now as I've got hundreds of pine/maple/elm/larch/cedar/seqiuoa seeds in trays as well which could benefit from the extra heat.

Only thing so far this year not had any success with is sweet peppers had a 0% germination rate, I'm blaming a bad seed batch so I bought some more which will be going in propagator tomorrow to it will be fun to see what happens.

interesting you say that we have only had one bell pepper come up out of the 10 we sowed we had to buy some plug plants

My peppers are rubbish but that's because of fungus gnats apparently...

Ive noticed with sweet peppers this year a similar thing. I had one seed out of about 15 seeds germinate,the seedling was growing away well on its own,the seeds in the same compost tray were doing nothing visable,so i stopped watering the whole tray for about 3 days,I was annoyed with the seeds & confused,kept an eye on the good one seedling tho,it wasn't suffering. Then after that,about 8 more seedlings popped up,a good week or two after the first one. Some seeds take a lot longer to germinate.

Well hopefully the second batch will take, if not plugs it may have to be also.

Slugs already got 1 of my courgettes in the greenhouse so I've armed up the pots with pellets.
