  • Chilli Pollination...

    Do chilli's self pollinate?

I have a number indoors and wondered if (without bees and wind) they would actually grow fruit or if the flower would just die off.

How long after the flower does a chilli appear?

    Thanks in advance.

    yes they do.
some flowers fall off, then the pepper grows.
some varieties the pepper grows through the flower while it is still open.
depends on the conditions as to how long it will take.
can be few days or few weeks.

This might e a really daft question but... Do you need more than one plant to pollinate or will a single plant set fruit by itself?

They're a bit like tomatoes, can self-pollinate but I've found tapping the plants late morning or early afternoon helps to release the pollen.

i find that placing them outside on a warm afternoon to let the insects get at them helps with pollenation, that and the trusty artists paintbrush.
