Any bed more than four foot wide, unless you are a giant, is a waste of time and defeats the purpose of having beds!! There I've said it!

I have had 3 and 4 feet beds and I'm with snadger the wider it gets the harder it is to keep without treading on it. At home I have a six foot bed 6" for me, 6" gap and 5 foot for the OH. I find a duvet is something I'm allowed to borrow but have to give back halfway through the night.I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

My beds are 4 feet 6 inches wide and it's just a tiny bit wide to comfortably reach into the middle. But I find I'm mostly planting either 2 or 4 things across the width, so it works okay: there's nothing planted in the exact centre.

4 feet wide here. I hate rows ... all that veg coming to maturity all-at-once (fine for long-harvest crops, like Beans of course), so I grow a patch-work of 4 Cauliflowers (every 14 days) and so on.K's Garden blog the story of the creation of our garden
