Well I have decide to being them in and stand them the other side of the big patio doors, they will be fine there, they would probably have been fine outside too, but as one forecast says 1C so it is not worth the risk.

My thermometer will record the low and I doubt it will be below 2.5C but better safe than sorry.

I'm leaving my 160 pots in the 2 blow away grow tents for the first time tonight. They're against the house & quite sheltered,I've looked at 3 weather forecasts, our area is going to have a low of 9 degrees,so I know they've been exposed to this sort of temp over the last 2 or 3 weeks of hardening up. My runner beans have germinated in one blow away tent & they're still growing so I've persuaded myself

I took mine in last night, it is really easy when they are near the patio or door you just slide it open and move the pots the other side of the of the glass, dunno why I never thought of that before, probably cos I chose sunnier spots.
Also I messed up with my thermometer and failed to record the lowest temp as the probe got dragged inside at some point. It said 6.4 C I sure it was colder than that?

It also has a frost alarm you can set that goes off when it gets down to 2C (I think you can set that level). was a good buy for £5 and it is much earlier to read than a conventional thermometer.

AURIOL Digital Thermometer at Lidl, Offers Calendar week 31 2014

Was a great deal for £3.50!! ( which included a battery), also has a clock on it!!

Wish I had bought another one.

I have one of those thermometers, with the probe dangling out of the kitchen window. Problem is, the probe is so close to the house wall that it isn't reading the air temperature further away from the house, in the open. Mine went down to 5.6 last night.

A little good news weather forecast says nothing lower than 6' round here for the next 10 days. Lets hope they are right.

Had word from a mate in Caithness that the arctic plume that has been causing the cold weather appears to be with drawing.

Mine seems to work aright out side the house as long as there is no direct sunlight on it.

I usually have it dangling from the kitchen windows sill a couple of inches form the house,
but recently I put it outside the patio door a foot or so away, fortunately I can close the door without chopping through the cable!

I found it really useful as I know the temperature outside before I go out.

I suppose you could also take your own temperatre with it as long as you are willing to stick the probe in your mouth, or wherever.

I'd love to carry all my seedlings to and from the gh each day but my allotment is several blocks away and I fear I'd look like a bit of a madman carrying 100s of seedlings on a tray on my head along the road every day.

Thanks for the idea, Beso, but I'll stick with the one you put in your ear and it plays a tune when its ready.................wonder if I could use that for the tomatoes?
