In this months issue of G Y O I had a letetr published about a cabbage which was being eating alive. I felt rather stupid when the reply came that it was in fact the work of cabbage white. As I planted this cabbage 'over winter' I didn't even think that the cabbage white would have been around - as it was too cold...How wrong can I be?

Cabbage white and winter

Hello and welcome
Have just re-read your letter. Was that a photo of your cabbage or one from GYO? If it's one of theirs, did yours look like the photo?
The photo certainly looks like cabbage white damage. My overwintering cabbages just disappeared last year (first time I tried to grow spring cabbage!) so maybe that's what happened to mine? They were there one week and gone the next time we went to the allotment a few weeks later. Have never seen a butterfly on our allotments yet, so never thought about caterpillers. At least I know now!
Anyone else have this problem?"Nicos, Queen of Gooooogle" and... GYO's own Miss Marple
Location....Normandy France
