Pea pests.

Hi all. I am attempting to grow peas as a kindly lottie neighbour gave me a full tray of young plants.
My problem is pea moth. I've had trouble with it before. If I fine net my peas, bees won't pollinate. How do others manage? Apart from buying them in the frozen section in Sainsburys....before anyone suggests it

As far as I know, peas are self-pollinating so you don't need the bees to help with them. So I'd cover them with fleece or fine netting if pea moths are a problem for you

Peas are definitely self pollinating, in fact most of them are already pollinated before the flower even opens.

Nasturtiums are supposed to help deter pea moth. In 2013 I had dreadful problems and lost about half my later crop. Last year I grew nasturtiums next to the peas and had no pea moth at all. of course I could just have had a lucky year, but I will be doing the same agian this year.

cant get mine to germinate theres a mouse stealing them as soon as i plant trying one more thing before i try growing in guttering

If you can get your peas going as early as possible in the season, they are likely to avoid the worst predations of the pea moth. Otherwise, stick to mangetout or sugar snap types where the pea moth hasn't time to affect them, and buy your actual peas in the supermarket.
