Mine have been very slow to establish this year. I don't think I've watered them enough during the dry month we've had.

Mine have only been in 2 weeks, those left over were planted yesterday at very close spacing and will be used as spring onions. That said I also planting some in March (red).

I planted some a few weeks ago. Being nosey I pulled one to see how it was doing and a decent amount of root was visible. I've plonked it back in obviously.
Any idea how long after planting that I should see the shoots ontop?

Onion sets are still on sale everywhere here in France. If you want to hurry things along, I would plant each set in modules, a bit fiddly, but worth doing, and encourage them into a good bit of growth of both shoots and roots before you plant them out. You can also discard any that are no good at that stage without wasting garden space. This method always works really well for me and gives me much more control over spacing and getting them under way.

I've got a couple of hundred in modules at the moment. They're pushing themselves out of the soil with the root growth. Bought a bag of Stuttgarter and bag of stauron at Wi1ko for 75p each and got around 200 sets of each. Under orders to grow some little ones for pickling (had some lovely pickled onions from the stouron ladt year).

Will ne putting them in as soon as I get the time.
