I've got a savoy cabbage that shows no sign of heading up, and it's sprawling over my path - can i just cut it and eat it like spring greens, or will it be tough and bitter?

Can you eat cabbages that haven't 'headed up'?

I would be inclined to take a piece of leaf and eat it raw, that should tell you whether or not it will be OK when cooked.
Mind you, I can't walk past a vegetable that I have grown without tasting it raw - no surprise that I still haven't managed to get any peas into the kitchen yetLast edited by scarey55; 27-04-2015, 05:13 PM.A garden is a lovesome thing, God wot! (Thomas Edward Brown)

The spine might be a bit chewy so just rip it out of the middle like I do with older kale.I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work. Thomas A. Edison
