Sad lower leaves on tomato plants

Hello everyone,

To my eye (having modest expectations) my tumbling tom plants look pretty good overall, but the lower leaves look a bit sad. I've experienced this before and it tends to kind of creep up the plant. You can see the wee seed leaves at the bottom have totally withered away. Any ideas? They are on a windowsill.

I have a couple on my window cill upstairs where the first true leaves are already turning yellow. They are only 5 inches tall and like you say, that is also creeping up the plant.

This is normal,the seed leaves have done their job,they're not needed,they usually fall off. Yellowing leaves is a lack of nitrogen,its quickly used up by plants. There's nothing to worry about

Don't worry too much. Do they need repotting?

Losing the seed leaves is normal. Remember that the nutrient reserve in compost only lasts for a few weeks and after that the plants will need re-potting or feeding.

Mine do that too. It's not just the seed leaves, like you the lower leaves die too. But this usually only my gardeners delight grown from some seeds I saved. It's very annoying. The last two years I've planted the GD in a separate greenhouse in case it's catching.

I have had loads of great toms off the affected plants but there is always the feeling they are out growing something. The lower leaves continue dying off.

Sorry not much help explaining it but at least you know you're not the only one ☺☺

Looks like a normal growing pattern - re-pot when you can see roots at the bottom of the pots and feed after about 4-6 weeks if using new compost.

Looks normal to me. I'd be thinking of repotting about now. I'd also keep my eyes open for aphids...
