Courgettes

I have a complete lack of germination of Zuccini courgettes, planted them couple of weeks ago, they've been in the airing cupboard, now on sunny windowsill, nothing!

Seem to remember I had bit of problem last year, should I wait a bit longer or start again?

I had the same problem this year and when I had a little root about, found slimey, rotted seeds.
(I quickly got on to VC and got some lovely varieties from the VSP)

There's still plenty of time to sow and courgettes tend to germinate quickly if they're going to.
I'd get some more seeds if I were you.

I just put new seeds into my pots this morning, nothing from two 'Defender' (last year's seeds) after a couple of weeks. My 'Milano' seeds were up within a few days.

I'd start again if I was you.

I did have a little look this morning, the seed is just 'sitting there' doing nothing!

Strange isn't it? It is new seed. Should I soak/chit the seed?

You have nothing to lose by a quick chit, so I'd go for it.

I think if they are laying flat, they are too comfortable and can't be bothered to grow! ( or they apparently rot)!

I do not know if this will help but I have seeded (Defend F1 Hyrid) in a propagator mid March and two weeks later transferred them to a 7.5 cm pot. I had an accident with the the plastic greenhouse, it fell in the wind. One of the plants broke in half. So decided to grow another seed mid April which I did but this time in a 7.5 cm pot with plastic bag over it and on the windowsill. The bag really kept it moist. It has grown really quickly and caught up with the one I grew in March but stronger. So decided to grow a different variety (Zuccini) on 24/4 again in the 7.5cm pot and it has the second leaves coming through. They are still on my windowsill.

I put the seeds in straight but 2cm deep.

This is the first time I have grown courgettes. However I don't think it is too late to start again. I am even thinking about doing 1 more seed this weekend. Must not over do it as there is only my husband and I in the house.
