Problems- Beetroot, Cabbage and Sprouts

None of the seedlings seem to be growing. In fact having just looked and the little seedlings on the sprouts and cabbage have actually gone to seed.

The beetroot isn't even growing. It's been in since the 1st of March and is still tiny.

Any ideas what is going on here? Is it too much heat?

The compost looks wet?
Have you checked the roots on these seedlings?
Are there any roots or have they been eaten/rotted away?

Just checked the roots on the beetroot and they're fine. Seem to be growing ok. Not rotted and I can't just pull them out.

I put these all in on the 1st March.

As for the compost, yeah it's damp. But I have to keep on top of the watering as they dry out very quickly in the growhouse once the sun comes out.

I think you have your answer, Scoot. Brassicas don't like too much heat. You're giving them extremes of temperature and water - too hot, maybe too cold at night, too dry then too wet.
Chuck the brassicas and start again - sorry!

Maybe the weather is to blame as well. My broccoli from March are very slow to grow but the one I sow last week they look that are faster to grow.

I've just re-sown the Sprouts and re-sown some more cabbage, they were going to flower so were knackered anyway. This time I'll be leaving the modules on the patio rather than in the greenhouse.

I'm still not sure what to do with the beetroot, 2 months and it has just now grown at all.

Beetroot can be sown direct now. Why not try that? Or even plant out the ones you've got. You might be surprised that they take off.

I have always found that the beetroot i sow in pots grows a little bit then just stops. Its only when i plant them out do they then start properly growing but even then it takes awile.

I would suggest planting the beetroot out now and start some more off or just sow direct outside although i always prefere to sow in pots first

Right, I have planted the beets in the actual garden. Lets see how they do in there.

Looking at the beets now and how much garden I have left, I am gradually running out of space. I still have the sprouts to go in when they eventually come through as well as the cabbage. Not to mention the leeks and swedes. I might try the sprouts in between the spuds when the spuds show up.

How will you harvest the potatoes? Brussels like really firm ground and won't thank you for disturbing their roots. I would keep potting them on til the potatoes are harvested and plant them in the ground then.
