The Met Office is only one of the available models. For my area the lowest temperature forecast this week by the Met Office is 6 degrees. However, if you look at the GFS model you get a completely different scenario, where most nights this week in my area are forecast below 4 degrees, sometimes down to 1. Models vary in their accuracy, and the accuracy drops the further away the timescale is. Temperature assessments are also often based on CITY temperatures (mine at the Met Office are for York, but I am in a village outside York, which will be colder). I prefer to look at a map rather than predictions for one specific place.
The GFS low temperature predictions map is here: weather model gfs - united kingdom - temperature low (2m) [base + 6] - weatheronline
6am is the most likely time to get a frost. Hover over the numbers above the map to see the date and time for that number of hours ahead. Most places away from the coasts, with the possible exception of East Anglia, look to be in the firing line for possible frost at some point this week.
Given different predictions from different models, I will always act on the colder one - better safe than sorry.Last edited by Penellype; 12-05-2015, 12:32 PM.A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP. - Leonard Nimoy

Yes, I've been using the netweather GFS chart - and it's not good
(It's the forecast that is not good - not the netweather chart )

we are not too worried about frosts as the promised heatwave never came within 300 miles of us, and with the windchill factor we are on about 6-7degs now, so not having had the warmth it makes no difference to us, roll on the summer, whenever it does arrive...

My Court Pendu Plat((a Wise Apple)is in the middle of flowering, therefore we are not getting a frost, at least not here.
If we do (which we down here will not), there is plenty of time to catch up.Last edited by fishpond; 12-05-2015, 04:37 PM.Feed the soil, not the plants.

That sounds too close to call for me to rely on it
This Evening and Tonight:
A dry night is in prospect with clear spells, some prolonged. Winds falling light and turning quite chilly in places with a grass frost in rural locations. Minimum Temperature 1C.

I've just spent 2 hours wrapping potatoes, strawberries and apple tree in fleece and moving anything frost sensitive into the growhouse. Debatable whether it would be easier to lift some of the pots into and out of the garage every night!Last edited by Penellype; 12-05-2015, 08:27 PM.A life is like a garden.
