    Well

After reading thisand asimilar thread, with predicted night tempsat 6c i decided to take the tenderest ans smallest of my beloved chillis into the house.
At 7:15 this morning lowest temp in the greenhouse showed 8.9 celcius whilst the temp outside was at 9, sooo.

At least my little ones will be ok and at 8.9 the rest should be too, shouldnt they ?

wow really Thelma ?, would have thought Kent would have been warmer than swansea, maybe the westerly breeze keeping temps up a touch.

The minimum temp inside the polytunnel last night was 1 degree (light frost outside). Thankfully I had all the tom's fleeced.

We got away with it last night here, but detailed forecast was for 2 hours at 2 degrees (outdoor thermometer reached 2.8). Tonight we are forecast 5 hours at 2 degrees, which sounds ominous.

Temp outside dropped to 5 degrees last night, though minimum in greenhouse was 11 degrees.

I'm excited though for after Thursday. The forecast in Hertfordshire after that is for warm nights. If it turns out as advertised, everything can go out to the greenhouses. It's nice to think they might not have to come in again.

Why do I have a vision of me next week traipsing back up the garden with trays of plants and the cat trying to trip me up?

Today they are all near the back door on the patio or in the blowaway. Hopefully they are enjoying the sunshine while I'm at work and are not being abused by pigeons and the cat.

What forecast do people recommend? On TheWeatherOutlook dot com it's still showing frosts or potential frosts through to the end of the month, up here. :-(

I use a combination of forecasts, depending on what I am looking for:
For an excellent, unbiased daily video with some scientific detail Simon Keeling at Weatherweb TV is great.
For a selection of excellent and thought out forecasts and videos covering some of the more advanced scientific stuff Gavin Partridge at GavsWeatherVids - UK Weather Forecasts And Latest News
If I want to know about frost I use the GFS model on weatheronline weather model gfs - united kingdom - temperature low (2m) [base + 6] - weatheronline
For a general idea of the forecast trends in temperature and rainfall (GFS model) http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/MT...hester_ens.png
If I am concerned about wind I use windfinder Wind, waves & weather forecast Linton-on-Ouse/York - Windfinder
If I want to know whether there is rain on the way Will it Rain Today? | Rain radar for the UK | Going to rain? | MeteoGroup
If I want to track thunderstorms Real-Time Lightning Map :: LightningMaps.org

There are plenty of other sites too, but I use these the most.

:-) Thank you! That's a scary number of sites... It's frost I'm wanting to track, but can't quite work out how to use the gfs site. I really want to know if I'm really not going to be able to plant anything tender out till June! I'm going to run out of space. :-/

                                Hehe, I like scientific stuff.

Clicking through the weatheronline link at the moment takes you to this map:

You can get to this from weatheronline by clicking Expert Charts (which will default to the GFS pressure and rainfall map) then clicking on Temperature Low (2m) in the left menu, bottom right.

The first thing to do is to click on the magnifying glass on the right of the line of blue symbols at the top - that gives you a bigger map with more detail:

At the top is says Base: Th. 00 GMT - this is the time of the computer run and is always several hours ago. Next to this are numbers - 6, 12, 18, 24 etc. These are hours from the base, so in this case we are looking at 6, which is 6am Thursday (today). Hover over these numbers to check the time, and click on one for the forecast map at that time. You can also press "loop" and it will scroll through the maps in a continuous loop, which I find a little fast for my liking.

6am is almost always the coldest time, so it is this that I look for.

At the top of the smaller map is a selection of other models - ECMWF, Euro4 etc. Not all of these do a temperature plot, but the Euro 4 does, and being a different model it will give you a slightly different forecast - this is 6am this morning:

I go by the colder of the 2 to be on the safe side.

I probably should add that the models update 4 times a day.
