Cheating this year!, bought some veg plants

I know they are more expensive than seeds, But....as a backup my brother told me of an online source he used to get some plants, they seem good, organicplants.co.uk

I have had to nip to the UK for 3 weeks, I have someone watering all my plants but seeds are in the geodome greenhouse and its 35C........they do need some watering!

So in case they die I have bought some plants to take back with me!

No idea what the varieties are......Seem good quality and quite low cost compared to some places

Pandora Leeks pack of 60 for £5.00 ,
they are about 5 or 6 mm in diameter when delivered yesterday, so better than I have managed! mine are again this year just like blades of grass

Mini Cucumber Iznik , 3 plants , £1.95 , only about 5 inch high but very healthy plants

Tomato and cucumber plants in Bulgaria on the local markets are cheap and much bigger about 1.5 foot high are usually about 1 lev each ( 37p ) so compared to that they are expensive! ,
seeds obviously are very much lower cost and I have about 50 cucumber plants growing,

but in case they die I got 3 of these to try, and I will plant more seeds if necessary when I get back

Today I ordered Flower Sprout plants.....whatever they are!....3 plants of 3 types for £6.25 with free p+p seems good to me!

Is anyone growing or grown before.... any of these varieties....particularly these flower sprouts......any good?

I have some Flower sprout seeds but keep putting off sowing them as they look a bit like blown sprouts

I don't think it's cheating, although I don't do it much because there's hardly any choice of variety and sometime the labels have been mixed up anyway.

I've never grown flower sprouts. How would you cook them?

No idea.....I have never eaten a normal sprout even....I don`t mind water from sprouts in gravy haven`t actually tried eating one though...., These look different so I may be able to try eating one!

I have an inbuilt dislike of anything naturally green (only eat white bits of leeks even) .....or red.....most vegetables in general!

I presume you just boil them?

Never had them myself, but steaming is probably the way to go.

We're going to have yo buy in plants this year as we were in the UK with no one to water our seedlings, so we didn't bothering to sow til we came back last week.
These plants are only just germinating and will be waaaay behind where they should be.
If we have another Indian summer they'll be gone, but I don't want to risk it, so we too are splashing out on small plants.
Watch out for reduced ones at large supermarkets...I got some bargain chillies and peppers for 22p each last week!

Nah...that's not cheating it's just a plan B as BM says!

Never heard of flower sprouts,i personaly never boil any veg,if i were to to grow any,first nibble the raw veg to taste if it strong or light,that alone will tell you if you might like them,then steam them for a few mins,or try in a stir fry,

Just had to look up flower sprouts.
Basically they look like a purple sprout which has blown, but has a mild flavour .
Yeh, I'd steam them .
Sound interesting if you have the land to spare.

You could cut them in half and stir fry them - I do that with ordinary sprouts anyway!

Yeah.....all the time!, last week I bought a `citrus sinensis conicullata`plant....devil orange....a sweet orange with horns on it....

I thought Christmas lights on the flowersprouts to really worry the neighbours....

Already..... I expect them to build a wicker man for me....when they see the bloody butcher and blue hopi sweet corn

If I were you I would check that you are going to be allowed to take the plants home with you. There are restrictions on imports of plants in some countries, so it would be wise to check this out.

Flower sprouts are really tasty, all I do is steam them for about 5/6 minute

Brought some seeds to grow this year and plants have just been planted out so finger crossed
