  • Spare plants.

Just been sorting out the young plants to try and make some room. Why is it that plants [tomatoes/peppers/cucumbers/aubergines ] you only want a few of do well if you sow to many and others decide to give up when you sow what you want.
Was wondering if there was any way that surplus plants could be used by others and how to go about getting it organised.
Have just had to throw away several hundred plants.
Any advice welcome [other than take up golf]

Freecycle? Or we have a local Facebook page and people often post in there if they have slabs, manure etc that they have available. Or depending on where you live, a little table outside with an honesty box? There are a few around here.

Just picked up some extra runner beans (7 for 50p) near my inlaws, a bloke near us has a sign outside his house saying tomato plants 50p.

I looked into some sweetcorn plants on ebay but the guy couldn't tell me what variety they were.

I got some tomato plants off freecycle a couple of years ago and returned the favour last year with some spare plants.

My next door neighbour has had two trays of broccolli off me and turned down some runner beans but then a mate of his wanted a couple. I'm slowly encouraging people at work to start growing their own so have given spare plants to them as well... a very nice feeling when you can give them away. I know it's not nice throwing them out!

Grow some for a local hospice and the local scouts group but missed them this year. [scouts]
              Hate throwing good plants away
