I grow Glaskins Perpetual up here. Has a very long season but has tended to flower a lot (so chop them off). Can vouch for it making good crumble however. I don't bother with the forcing malarkey either, too much trouble for a lazy gardener!

Oops, just noticed the date on this thread! I'm 12 years too late it would seem!

      Champagne Rhubarb

No doubt that Victoria looks beautiful, but you can think about Rhubarb Champagne is one of the best varieties for both experienced and new gardeners, it is easy to grow, reliable and early.

        Well Well.

I found a clump behind my byre. It is not doing very well. At one time it had crowns over a 1m sq area, not is it just moss and a few mini crowns.

Cut off 2 today and moved to a new area. Given the others a handful of Bone Meal and will see how it comes along. Perhaps move in the winter if still there.

How do you go about identifying rhubarb?

This plant has very dark green leaves. The Aldi special has more lime green.

Get in touch with RHS Wisley or Clumber Park - both host collections of rhubarb, though Clumber Park's is bigger if I remember rightly. The Wisley one was dug up and moved last year, so this year they are all offsets, but I think they have getting towards 100 varieties on show.

              Long season

Thanks for the recommendation. I'm in Edinburgh, so if it does in Forres it'll do here. A long season is what I'm after.
Mostly flowers, some fruit and veg, at the seaside in Edinburgh.
