Gales tonight, heads up

Just in case anyone has been as absent minded as I and missed it till now- severe gales are forecast for the 'sunny South' (hollow laughter) and most of England tonight and tomorrow. With lots and lots of rain. Right- off to try and secure the blow-away so it doesn't live up to its name and to give a pep talk to the long suffering plants.

My growhouse has a rip in it and the zip is knackered and I have nothing to cover the whole thing with. So I'm just praying.

It's blowing a right bad storm here at the moment. Have managed to rescue the tomatoes in the garden, but dread to think what's going on at the allotment

I inadvertently left my toms out overnight a couple of weeks ago and, seeing as they seemed to come to no harm, I've left them outside ever since. They've now seen better days, frankly, but I've had words with them... pointed out that I can't live their lives for them, so if they want to live then they'd better buck their ideas up. Harsh but fair, methinks. So far, all I've managed to harvest is lots of mustard greens -yummy- and a little bit of spinach before it bolted. Slightly regretting dedicating so much space in the garden to tomato plants. Ho-hum...

I have had to bring in my house my strawberries in their stack pots and my courgette in a pot. But not before one of the leaves on my courgette got bent. Cold frame on top of my other courgettes with a ceramic pot on top to stop it blowing away. B....y wind.

50 mph winds. Hail and heavy rain (there is lots of it and it honestly feels like it weighs more than normal).

Mind you, at least with the wind like this the cold, hammering rain is almost horizontal!

Been blustery and with heavy bursts of rain mingled with spitting rain all day here.
Wind does seem to be picking up a bit now. With these frequent spells of gloomy, stormy weather it's hard to believe today is the first day of summer. Still, Friday is looking calmer and with a temperature forecast more in keeping with the time of year, so fingers crossed that materialises.

Highest wind speed we have had for some time in these parts, damage is a certainty. Looks like the roofers are going to be busy later this week 'it's an ill wind' and all that.

Well I've got misen to look after so the crops are gonna have to fend for themsens. They'll be grateful of this rain come the weekend..............
