The cauliflowers seedlings i planted out on 12.4.15 are looking great but are producing florets at the base of the plants. They don't seem to be interfering with body of the plant and are delicious. Never heard of or noticed this before - any ideas or explanations very welcome.

They are impossible to photograph- the main plant is quite big and only an inch or two off the ground and the sprouts are growing directly underneath off the central stem. They are a bit like wsb and about an inch across. No matter:the allotment is lovely, the tadpoles have legs, my sea kale has germinated and I am glad to be home.

Not sure - will check tomorrow when I go to allotment. They look to be growing well and forming central head, I'm just curious because I have never seen this before. The sprouts are lovely though! No matter:the allotment is lovely, the tadpoles have legs, my sea kale has germinated and I am glad to be home.

Sorry to tangentize slightly but the thread title is relevant...
I have some cauliflowers, variety "Mayflower", forming heads.
I now have the same problem I always have: when do I cut them?
What I usually do is, wait for them to get a bit bigger, then a bit bigger still, then realise the curds are separating, cut them, take them home, show them to Mrs H, throw them in the bin.
There must be a better way. Please could a cauliflower expert advise me?

Tangetisiation again!
I am new to polytunnel gardening and asked my neighbour who uses a polytunnel what was the best thing to grow in mine. Cauliflowers sez he?
I would have thought it would have been a bit hot for caulis (I have plants ready to prick out) but he is admant they do well. Can anyone back this up?My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order
to present to him vegetables and all beautiful flowers.- Offerings of Thutmose III to Amon-Ra (1500 BCE)

I put caulis in there in the autumn for protection overwinter and a spring crop but a) I think it's too hot over summer and b) there wouldn't be room at the moment
