  • What fertiliser for cucumber?

What does everyone use as fertiliser for cucumbers? I have a plant that was bearing lots of flowers, but only 2 developed into cucumbers, the others just went yellow and shrivelled. Can one use tomato feed as fertiliser or do they need something different?

Hi Opal - I use tomato feed but have to say I haven't had a great harvest in past years. An expert will undoubtedly be along in a minute!

Hope this works http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...ead.php?t=8298 a thread about cucumber feed.

I used tomato feed last year but think I might go looking for something different this year.

I'm using tomorite, and I must say they are going great guns. I have them in the greenhouse in 12" pots and I feed them a dilute feed twice a week.

I asked Gardening Which experts this last week, as I saw an article somewhere which said "don't use tom fertilizer on cukes as it makes fruit yellow & drop". Their reply was that they always reccommended tomorite or equivalent, & it was more likely to be overwatering that caused the problem.
Just found the article again. Kitchen Garden magazine - Mar 07 "there is nothing wrong with giving them the occasional dose, but if you were to constantly feed with a tomato fertilizer your plants would run out of steam, cease to fruit, or produce cues that turn yellow & drop off".
Who are we to believe !!!!!
