I am really surprised your maincrop spuds are ready. I've only just started lifting my earlies. Maincrop are usually left in the ground until August/September. However if they are really ready to be lifted then leave them on the soil for an hour or two to dry off, brush off the soil, and store in hessian or paper sacks.
I need to dig up my mains soon as I need the space for winter veg.
you mains will not keep until the skins set and that will not be yet a while i lifted a root of king edwards last sunday they are not realy big enough yet but got fed up with the gigantic earlies but your main crop will not be ready for keeping yet you have to be like a doctor and have patients jacob
