    • Woah.

I had a friend visit the plot, so I dug up another haulm's worth of 'pink potatoes' with my 4yo son, and her daughters aged 4 and 2. They clearly have magic hands... It was about three times the size of the last one we dug up! Sadly didn't weigh it as gave it away, but there were some beautiful, mahoosive potatoes in there. So happy!

The 4yo daughter was desperate to know if they stayed pink when cooked, and the 2yo said "buh-bye poe-tay-toes" to the rest of the plants when we left the plot....

      • Update on the scabby crop. They are definately not Pentland Javelins, and do not have that nice a taste. Good for roasting and mash methinks. Hubby loves them boiled as well.
Just a normal peel gets the scab off, SO, we are ploughing our way through the 31 lbs of them
Expect an update on the rest of our crops in a few weeks lol

        • First bucket of Desiree harvested at home today. This bucket died down early (beginning of July) and I was not expecting great things as a result. Even so I was bitterly disappointed to find only 1.05kg (less than 2.5lb) from 3 seed potatoes. There are 5 more buckets to go at, and 3 of these still have green foliage, so I am hoping they will do a bit better.

          • I got a whoping 2,461KG (5,426lb) from one seed of Red Emma. Nice looking potatoes. A small amount of scab. Not tasted these ones before, but if they taste good I will obviously be growing them again!

Planted with them, in the same ~30-40L sack (not sure on volume, it's one of those ones from Wilkinsons), was one seed of Maris Peer. This produced a measly 483g (a little over a pound).

So I got by far my best result and by far my worst result of the season from the same container. I suspect that the more dominant plant sets the growing conditions that favour it, and this may not suit the other variety.

            Photos later.

Over 2 tonnes of potatoes! Or should there be a decimal point in there somewhere?

told you it was a whoping harvest!
...although I may have meant g rather than kg...

                  • Our latest spud harvest. All from volunteers who snuck in the previous years bed. We had left this fallow? But it grew spuds and tomatoes which are just ripening now.

                    • It was reported the other day that potato prices have dropped due the good harvest this year so looks like the farmers have done well too.

                      • Not sure of the variety, maybe pink fur apple but this pile was from 4 seed so I'm quite pleased

I've still got an entire row to dig up

                            • Desiree, 2nd bucket - this one is from a slightly different area of the garden.

20 potatoes from 3 seed potatoes, including some huge ones. 2.4kg (5.5lb) not including a couple of slightly rotten ones.

                              • Our last harvest, 3 bags of main crop potatoes. 2 were Maris Piper
5 seed potatoes in each bag, a bit scabby, but never mind
32 lb in all, currently drying off in our lounge and spare room lol
Will do a tally up later on in the week on the total grown.
Thanks for starting this thread, I've enjoyed keeping a tally and posting pics
